The Vectron Dual Mode has a 2.4 MW diesel engine and it is also capable of running under 15 kV AC catenary. This means that potential customers can save on diesel fuel and reduce the emissions of the locomotive in, for example, urban areas.

They can be delivered as a purely electric version operating on either alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC), or as a multisystem (MS) variant. The locomotives have a power output of 5.2 or 6.4 megawatts.
